Shadow Warriors? PART II

25 04 2009

The final score of 3-1 in Liverpool’s favor betrayed the overall scrappiness of the game. A soft second half goal thanks to a Kuyt header saw Liverpool go 2-0 up after Hull had a player sent off because of a transgression committed on Skrtel. And then Liverpool completely switched off and entered into the mental disposition of a sloth and perhaps even the physical disposition of the said sloth. Punishment awaited Liverpool’s disaffectedness as Hull scored through a combination of Geovanni’s (Hull City striker) calmness and Insua’s (Liverpool left back) failure to mark Geovanni!

This goal seemed to inject some energy into Hull and brought a sense of urgency into the game. However, a 10 man Hull city weren’t upto equalising against Liverpool, as lackadaisical as the latter may be. Towards the end of the game Kuyt volleyed home his second and Liverpool’s third of the game from an Arbeloa cross to put the result beyond doubt.

Liverpool take all three points from a game of football which lacked the usual zest that comes with Liverpool. They also move to the top of the table although this might be temporary. I certainly hope Steven Gerrard makes his return next week against Alan Shearer’s Newcastle Utd — at least for the sake of my fantasy premier league team which has dropped from second place to fourth due to a lack of points from some star players, the most influential of the lot being Steven Gerrard!
